Meet the Firm

My Portfolio Guide, LLC is a Registered Investment Advisory firm serving investors nationwide and currently registered in the state of California. The firm has grown organically by serving high net worth individuals and business owners using a high-touch and personal approach. Leveraging some of the strongest names in the financial services industry and numerous resources allows the firm to offer a truly unique and valuable experience to each client.

After one complimentary Portfolio Review and Analysis, prospective investors quickly learn how different our approach is compared to the rest of the industry. We are not driven by sales quotas or commission goals; we are focused on taking pride in our fiduciary responsibility. We actively look to lower expenses and investment fees, and listen to what is important for each client and to what makes them unique.

Matthew Pixa founded and built My Portfolio Guide after working for some of the most respected and imminent firms on Wall Street. Within the financial servces industry there is a  “sea of sameness” and My Portfolio Guide aims to separate ourselves from boilerplate or "big box" advice.

Matthew V. Pixa

Matthew V. Pixa is the President and founder of My Portfolio Guide, LLC. Matt Pixa grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and at a very young age learned from a World War II Veteran father who grew up in the Great Depression that money and resources are to be managed prudently. Matt's curiosity and passion for investing was further sparked during the stock market crash of 1987. Being a new investor without any guidance and coupled with the dramatic events of that period, an interest and passion for becoming a student of the markets was born.

Matt later studied Economics and earned a Bachelor's degree while also competing as a student-athlete for California State University Long Beach. After advancing his career he decided to return to graduate school and further his business and finance education by earning an MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Matt then completed his Personal Financial Planning studies for the CFP designation through UCLA. He is a member of the FPA (Financial Planning Assocation) and NAPFA (National Association of Personal Financial Advisors).

Matt was trained and worked as an investment advisor for several of the largest and most widely respected brokerage firms on Wall Street as well as one of the most eminent private wealth management firms in the nation. Early on in his financial career, he learned that most "advisors" are actually not trained to give unbiased investment advice. Many simply get licensed and then are employed as salespeople to pitch products or build a book of business that is only scalable by outsourcing the relationship to others. It becomes a numbers game and what typically gets left behind is the best interest of the client. Along with his extensive background in finance, Matt's time working at Deloitte enabled him to understand the demands of maintaining independence requirements for Partners and executives from the Big Four accounting and consulting firms. This in turn created a niche in serving this type of time strapped and compliance constrained professional.

Matt Pixa lives in Seal Beach, CA with his wife Cecilia, daughter Isabel, and son Lance. As a family the Pixa's are involved in several Orange County charities, through their church at Saint Joseph, and with several non-profits such as Care for the Poor and Taller San Jose. This past year Matt was also elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce. Lastly, he enjoys coaching youth sports for his children's teams and also competes in Ironman triathlons as a way to stay fit, disciplined, and blow off any left over energy.

Matt P. Barton

Matt Barton has been involved in the investment industry since 1995. After experiencing both the outdated “full-commission” version of the business and the “discount broker” side, he realized neither was properly serving clients. The idea that the fee-only fiduciary model was the way to keep clients and advisors on the same side led him to a long tenure as an investment counselor with one of the largest private firms in the U.S.

He feels that working with My Portfolio Guide allows him to use the best of what he has learned to help clients reach their goals. This means putting their interests first, while keeping investing ideas simple and management fees easy to understand. He believes in developing a deep understanding of how each client defines success, so he can help them toward that end with appropriate planning.

Matt lived in several different areas growing up, living in Colorado, Arkansas, and Southern California. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Humboldt State University, in Northern California. He has been settled in the Portland, Oregon, area since 2002 with his wife Kristin and two sons, Max and Graham. Matt enjoys outdoor pursuits like cycling, hiking, and skiing, along with following his kids’ various team sports. He has spent many years volunteering as a coach for Little League baseball and CYO basketball.
